Whether you call this rolled pizza, pizza wheels or actually pizza rolls, that does not affect the taste. They are perfect to prepare, super soft and as cheesy as you like them to be. For a pan of 12 pizza rolls you need only 1/2 of the CIABATTA bread mix. (Keep the other half for regular loaves as the perfect pairing to a charcuterie board 🙃).

How you make the 12 best Pizza Rolls
We recommend making this dough with a kitchen machine and the dough hook to ease the longer kneading process. NOTE: Use a digital scale to measure ALL ingredients in gramm (oz NOT fl.oz)!
Dough:
1/2 bag of CIABATTA bread mix
245 g / 8.6 oz filtered Water, room temperature
1 TBS Olive Oil
—
Filling:
~1/2 Cup Marinara Sauce with herbs (our favorite!)
1/2 – 1 Cup Cheese, shredded – grate fresh & mix your favorites!
1/3 Cup thin sliced red onions
+ some small cut (peperoni) salami or sausage meat (optional)
+ more cheese for topping
Note 1: you can use small cubed or crushed tomates, just make sure not adding to much of the water. Season with salt, pepper, Italian herbs.
Note 2: When you add zucchini or champignons be aware to not burn yourself while eating. The high water content keeps the heat very long inside the rolls.
Note 3: Try the topping with seasoned sour cream, onions and different types of cheese!

Instructions for making easy Pizza Rolls
STEP 1 – Prepare the dough with the water and oil. Use a kitchen machine with dough hook and knead for ca. 3 min. Let rest for 20 min. Knead further for ca. 9 min on medium speed.
STEP 2 – The dough should be smooth, even and slightly tacky. Cover with plastic cling/dump kitchen towel and let rise for 90 min.
STEP 3 – Meanwhile, prepare all your toppings and grease a deep baking pan (9×13 inch) or line it with baking paper (reduces the mess in the pan).
STEP 4 – When the dough is ready, roll it gently out to a rectangle 18″x12″; better – use more your hands to stretch it into size. No extra flour is necessary. Nevertheless, if you need some, only dust your countertop very lightly. Loosen the dough from the surface from time to time that it does not stick too much. (TiP: Should the dough shrink back too much, just wait 5 min before you go ahead)
Spread the toppings equally onto the dough and make sure to spare the upper longer edge (1/2′) so the dough can later stick easier together.
Now evenly roll up the dough via the longside and pinch the seam together. Turn the roll on the seam to cut it with a serrated knife in 12 equal pieces. Place the pieces into the pan with the seam towards each other. Cover again, set aside and let rise for ca 45-50 min until they fill the pan and nice & puffy. Top with the remaining shredded cheese.
STEP 5 – Preheat the oven to 400°F after 30min into the rising time. Bake for ~20min until the outer rolls turn brown-ish and all the cheese has melted and browned. Rotate the pan in the last 10 min for even baking.

STEP 6– Let the rolls cool a couple of minutes and get your plates ready. Serve with a nice green salad & enjoy! And don’t forget to take a picture for us! 🤩
Serve the homemade Pizza Rolls ovenfresh

Leftovers can easily be reheated in a microwave. Be aware, it can get very hot! Our homemade pizza rolls can be frozen after you placed them in the baking pan. Thaw them for several hours (!) in the fridge or on the counter top until the puffed up nicely (step-4). Bake as described.
